Spanish fashion brand Mango has kicked off a 90,000 square meter expansion project at its logistics center in Lliçà d'Amunt, Barcelona with an investment of 35 million euros ($42.4 million).

Mango plans to have the new building at the center operational in the second half of 2022 and will reach full multi-channel capacity by 2023, the brand said in a press release. The new facilities will be designed to manage the expanding logistics service and support the company's new business units.

Staying invested in strategic projects will allow us to anticipate future demand and becoming more competitive will be a priority for the company,” said Mango CEO Toni Ruiz.

According to Mr. Ruiz, the expansion project will focus on providing more specific logistics solutions for e-commerce. The new automated systems will complement the center's existing functions including bag sorters, Automated Mobile Robots and shipping sorters. The expanded logistics center will be able to process an additional 10,000 products per hour, bringing the total hourly processing capacity to 85,000.

Mango is also committed to conducting its expansion in an environmentally sound and responsible manner. The roof of the building will be installed with solar cells to provide the necessary energy to generate hot water and electric vehicle charging points; while rainwater will be collected from the roof to supply the nearby Can Dunyó wetlands.
